Light-City Buses (Transfield Services)

Light-City Buses is a business which operates a bus service in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. Light-City Buses is a business of Transfield Services Limited a publicly listed company in Australia [1].

Light-City Buses was awarded two of the Adelaide's six public bus contract regions commencing operation in October 2011. These two contracts are valued at $567 million over the eight year life of the contracts. [2]. The two contract regions cover 43% of the bus services in Adelaide were [3]

The Transfield contracts are in place for an initial eight year term, from 2 October 2011 to 30 June 2019 with an option to extend for a further four years, subject to government approval [3]. Transfield previously unsuccessfully tendered to operate buses in Adelaide in 2004 as part of a partnership with Transdev [4]

Torrens Transit operated the two contract areas prior to Light-City Buses assuming the responsibility in 2011 [5]. Torrens Transit & SouthLink also operate bus services under contract in Adelaide[3]
